Coronavirus: Helping you avoid the crowds

Your eye health is a critical aspect of your health and wellbeing and remains just as important now as at any other time, especially if you are likely to be spending more time using screens and reading over the coming weeks or months.

You will notice that we have made some changes to how we work in order to help you feel comfortable and well-protected during your visit to either practice.

Small is beautiful

We care for our patients from two small practices, one in Lee-on-Solent and one in Wickham. This means that it is perfectly normal for us to see people on a ‘one in, one out’ basis and that neither practice is ever crowded.

Unlike the busy high street shops, our footfall is low. This is important at this time as it makes it easy for you to maintain social-distance from other people.

Our ethos has always been, and remains, an absolute commitment to delivering the highest levels of service is unchanged and is coupled with exemplary hygiene standards.

The team have been fully briefed to apply even more stringent hygiene habits than they would usually. This includes:

  • More frequent handwashing throughout the day and between each client.
  • Increased cleaning of the practice with particular emphasis on high use areas.
  • Availability of hand sanitiser which staff, and customers, are encouraged to use.
  • Magazines and reading materials have been removed, preventing multiple people handling them.

Caring for you and your eyes

We are fortunate that both practices allow a flexible approach to taking care of every patient care.

In order to make your visit more comfortable, we currently:

  • Only allow one person in the clinic at a time (except for children’s sight tests when a parent will be present)
  • Allow more time between appointments giving time for the clinic to be cleaned
  • Clean equipment whilst you are present
  • Have masks available if you require them.

If you need additional social space for your appointment, please call and let us know. We will do everything we can to accommodate your needs and ensure you feel at ease during your appointment.

As you would expect, we are keeping up to date with the latest advice and are implementing it as appropriate.

Taking care of your eyes

If you are experiencing changes like working from home or self-isolating as a result of coronavirus, you are likely to be spending more time reading and increased screen time. As a result, you may notice problems with your eyesight that you haven’t noticed before. Please don’t ignore them. Any change in your vision or eye health should be investigated as soon as possible.

Now is a good time to make sure that you are prepared by booking your eye test and ensuring you are using the correct prescription for your contact lenses or specs.

Similarly, if your eye test is due now, or in the near future, please call to make an appointment for your routine check-up as soon as possible. We are open for business as normal.

Finally, as an independent practice, we have come to know many of you very well over the years. You are in our thoughts and we hope that you and your loved ones remain healthy and safe as we go through this trying period together.

If you have any concerns about your sight or whether you should attend your appointment, please call 01329 832706 for Wickham or 023 9255 0723 for Lee-on-Solent and the team will be happy to help.
